The Whole Story

Artist Alain Vincent is currently producing an adaptation of the novel “The Torrents of Spring” by Ivan Turgenev through daily images he posts to his Instagram gallery.  The editing is done with his signature style.  The original photograph for this edit was taken by Paolo Salvadori.

When I asked Alain about the inspiration for his work here’s what he had to say:

“I have no time for an image that doesn't tell a story. That story was somewhere in my head, buried like an ancient fossil and finally resurrected when I see the image.  What comes first? The story or the image?  Does it matter?   I have been asked that question by a friend. I still struggle with the answer.  I think they both exists somewhere and are brought together by some magic that neither picture or word can describe.  What is important is the act of bringing them together that liberates the three of us: the image, the story and myself.  In that sense the image doesn't really tell a story. Neither the story generates a particular image.   I, the viewer only decide since the story and the image are as unique as oneself.”

(Geri’s Note:  Alain is far too humble!  He was one of the mobile artists featured in the Mobile Masters app by Dan Marcolina.  You can also see more of Alain’s work here on iART CHRONiCLES in this feature, and watch some of his creations being made on his Youtube channel)

The Photographer

Paolo SalvadoriPaolo Salvadori - Paolo Salvadori lives in Venice, Italy where he approached the world of photography for the first time in the late 80’s helping his photographer father after school.  Over the past ten years, the passion has grown slowly and spontaneously.  Now he uses both a reflex digital camera and new technologies like an iPhone. His pictures tell stories of people in everyday life with shots quickly "stolen" in the streets.
