Repix Gets An Update With Three New Filters

Repix is continually improving and adding to the already beautifully produced app. With the latest update you have three new filters in the Mellow Filters set to play with - Stark, Ethereal and Decolor. Below shows the filters in action using one of the sample photos included with the Repix app. I particularly like the washed out look of Decolor. Do you use Repix?

Repix Just Keeps Getting Better!

If you've purchased the Master Collection of Brushes in Repix, the latest update included the Raven Brush for adding flocks of birds to your images and a new Grunge Brush that adds paint cracks and surface damage effects.  For me the real winner of this update is the Chalk Brush!  The Chalk Brush has two settings, one which only allows for vertical strokes and when you click the + sign it converts to a brush that allows you to vary the direction of the strokes.

The images below were created in part with Repix.  All apps used for the edits are listed below each image.

Repix has surely been one of the best apps to come on the market for editing painterly images.  It definitely gets two thumbs WAY up in my book!

Repix App Tutorial and Review by Epic Tutorials

No need to reinvent the wheel.  This is an excellent tutorial for the Repix app.  It explains in detail how to use each of the features. This tutorial was created before the update on July 2, 2013 which includes the addition of new live brushes, new frames and an update of the Master Collection which now includes all the brushes, filters, frames and future updates.

Below is another tutorial showing a more painterly editing style with the Sensu Brush.  I haven't ordered a Sensu Brush yet.  Do you have one?  If so, how do you like it?

Repix Gets Major Redesign & Impressive New Features!

As a huge fan of Repix, I was thrilled to get the new update.  I wanted to try out the new features (see press release below to find out what’s new!).  I used one of the images in the Repix Starter Gallery and here’s what I came up with:

Repix App

Press Release:

Repix, the world’s most inspiring photo editor, has today released a new version of its iOS app. This new version sees the app receive a stunning redesign as well as new feature set that enable users to create amazing photos in seconds.

“We’ve had a fantastic few months since launching Repix, but we’re not about to rest on our laurels. We wanted to make Repix the most inspiring photo editor available on the App Store. Something that can be used for everyday photo edits as well as inspiration source for more creative edits ” said Ilkka Teppo, CEO of Sumoing.

The new design will make photo editing quicker and easier than ever. Users can access all of the app’s features with just one hand and all editing happens in real-time. There’s no need to confirm actions and users can switch directly between tools, making editing smoother than ever.

The new version of Repix comes also with some neat new features. The new handcrafted adjustable Frames enable users to add a final flourish to their creations. Unique new spotlight filters let users add cool studio-like lightning effects to photos. In addition, users can now share creations directly to Flickr. The app’s adjustment tool has a new more robust design and from now on all EXIF data is saved when users are saving their images.

So, what’s new?

- NEW – the new design, that lets edit quicker and easier than ever

- NEW - whole new Frames tool with 7 unique Frames in two colour variants

- NEW – direct sharing to Flickr

- NEW - new adjustment menu - with faster and more robust experience

Repix Does it Again! Another update and one in the works!

RepixEvery morning when I wake up, before I grab my cup o’ Joe, I grab my iPad.  My ritual starts with checking for app updates and I’m always excited to see the little superscript numbers on the blue App Store icon!  This morning when I clicked to see what was new, I literally got an adrenaline rush when I saw the Repix icon in the update list!  I love Repix and it is a major player in my app arsenal.  In fact, the portrait that I recently had featured in the Dive Festival in Barcelona was in part edited with Repix.  If you thought the last update was great, wait till you see this one!

What’s New in Version 1.2?

  • New grunge brushes let you make awesome gritty photos
  • New pack of super-cool jazzy filters
  • Improved + mode brings two styles into one brush.
  • Usability improvements and bug fixes

Here’s my first creation with the new update

From what I’ve heard through the grapevine, a new update is in the works and will be released soon – what have they got up their sleeve next?  Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.  To be continued…

Repix Updated and Better Than Ever

RepixThe Repix App was recently updated and now it’s better than ever.  In fact, the image below was edited ONLY with Repix – that says a lot for this app, because I almost always use more than one app to complete a piece.  It looks like Repix has been listening to the feedback of its users - this is by far one of the best app updates I’ve come across to date!

A Painterly Edit with Repix

Repix

Below is a tutorial using only the newly released app Repix.  It is available FREE with option for additional in app purchases.  If you’re looking for a painterly app, this is a great one to add to your app arsenal!

Open Repix and apply the Daubs brush to the entire image, working one area at a time (below)

Daubs Brush

Using Cartoonize brush, focus on the main flowers to apply effect (below)  I did not zoom in in these first steps in order to keep the brush size large.  With Repix, when you zoom in, you get finer strokes with the brushes and tools.

Cartoonize Brush

Next the Edger brush, mainly in the center portion of the image, focusing on the flowers and leaves I want to emphasize (below)

Edger Brush

Hollywood brush to add a bit of blue in select areas (below)

Freshen brush to bring out some yellow highlights (below)

Next I used the Undoer tool to undo all effects on the center of the main flowers (below)

Zooming in a bit, I applied the Edger again to outline the centers of the main flowers (below)

I then moved to the menu in the top center of the app to get the dropdown menu and lowered the contrast (below)

Lowered the Saturation (below)

Slightly bumped up the Vibrance (below)

Repix App Releases Thursday March 14, 2013!

For the past few days I’ve had the pleasure of experimenting with the soon to be released Repix app as a beta tester.  Repix will be available FREE in the App Store on March 14th with additional brushes available as an in app purchase.

Repix in action - The Fox from Repix on Vimeo.

I tested it on my iPad but I’m assuming the functioning is similar if not identical on the iPhone.  The Repix brushes allow you to remix the pixels for a variety of painterly looks and styles.  There are also brushes that boost the color, add stylized brushstrokes and even light brushes to add Lens Flares, Stars, Glow Smoke and more!  Further adjustment tools allow the user to Crop, alter Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Vibrance, Temperature and Vignetting.

Brushes included with the FREE version – Cartoonize, Charcoal, Edger, Dotter, Flares, Drips, Posterize, Silk, Bleach, Undoer, Eraser

In App Purchases Available -

COLOR BRUSHES – Sepia, Hollywood, Vintage, Freshen (set €1.79/$1.99/£1.49)

ARTISTIC BRUSHES – Hatching, Daubs, Van Gogh, Spray (set €1.79/$1.99/£1.49)

LIGHT BRUSHES – Glow Smoke, Stars, Sparkler, Glow Line (set €1.79/$1.99/£1.49)

or

Unlock everything with the Master Collection ((set €4.49/$4.99/£3.99)

Here are some examples of my early experiments.

I’m really liking the Drips and Daubs brushes – perhaps because of my painting background.  With the image below I used the Eraser tool to completely remove the original photo and then “painted” it back in using various Repix brushes.

Like most of the other painterly apps I use, I like to create several edits with one image and then combine them using a blending app and touch up with a bit of sharpening as I did on the two images below.

I suppose as an honest beta tester I should also state any drawbacks I experienced with this app.  The only drawback for me was that I would like the Undoer tool to have an opacity level which I could change to allow me to keep some of the effect while allowing the original image to show through. For any upcoming updates my wish list would include a sharpening tool in the adjustments toolkit, the ability to rotate the image while editing and an even more powerful zoom.  I have another app that allows me to zoom 12800%!  Although this app will be FREE with in-app purchases available, I would definitely pay to get even the most basic version as I know this is one that I will use again and again!

Thank you Repix for allowing me this sneak peek!
