Okay, first the disclaimer! This in no way includes ALL of my favorites. This was just a fun exercise and you may want to play along. When you read the subtitles below, what comes to mind first? That's how I made my lists. If these lists were complete there would be MANY more in each category.

If you'd like to share some of your answers, I'd love to read them in the comments.

The Whole Story–A Collaboration by Alain Vincent and Paolo Salvadori

The Whole StoryFor this edition of The Whole Story, I’m featuring a collaboration of two talented gentlemen.   Paolo Salvadori shot the original image with his iPhone 4 and Alain Vincent created the final piece.

If you’d like to submit a photo and have a chance to be featured, you can find the details here.

The Photograph

Collaboration Paolo Salvador and Alain Vincent

The Whole Story

Artist Alain Vincent is currently producing an adaptation of the novel “The Torrents of Spring” by Ivan Turgenev through daily images he posts to his Instagram gallery.  The editing is done with his signature style.  The original photograph for this edit was taken by Paolo Salvadori.

When I asked Alain about the inspiration for his work here’s what he had to say:

“I have no time for an image that doesn't tell a story. That story was somewhere in my head, buried like an ancient fossil and finally resurrected when I see the image.  What comes first? The story or the image?  Does it matter?   I have been asked that question by a friend. I still struggle with the answer.  I think they both exists somewhere and are brought together by some magic that neither picture or word can describe.  What is important is the act of bringing them together that liberates the three of us: the image, the story and myself.  In that sense the image doesn't really tell a story. Neither the story generates a particular image.   I, the viewer only decide since the story and the image are as unique as oneself.”

(Geri’s Note:  Alain is far too humble!  He was one of the mobile artists featured in the Mobile Masters app by Dan Marcolina.  You can also see more of Alain’s work here on iART CHRONiCLES in this feature, and watch some of his creations being made on his Youtube channel)

The Photographer

Paolo SalvadoriPaolo Salvadori - Paolo Salvadori lives in Venice, Italy where he approached the world of photography for the first time in the late 80’s helping his photographer father after school.  Over the past ten years, the passion has grown slowly and spontaneously.  Now he uses both a reflex digital camera and new technologies like an iPhone. His pictures tell stories of people in everyday life with shots quickly "stolen" in the streets.

Featuring the Unique Style of Mobile Artist Alain Vincent

Alain VincentI wish I could be inside the mind of Alain Vincent just for one day.  When you see the images and captions he’s written for them, you’ll understand why!

Alain’s gallery @alainvincent on Instagram was one of the first that caught my eye.  It was his unique style and thought provoking captions that lured me in.

Alain lives in British Columbia, Canada and has been posting daily on Instagram since August of 2012.  All of Alain’s photos are taken with his iPhone.  I wasn’t surprised to hear that he has a background as a painter.  It shows through in his images and only an experienced artist could add the strokes as masterfully as Alain does.

I am fascinated by Alain’s captions and asked it he edits them with a particular story in mind or if they “speak” to him after they’re completed.  Alain’s answer:  “When one works on an urgent mode as I do, there is little time for me to get in the way of the story, or the will of my hand...What comes out is ‘what is’, and I am as surprised as anybody else.  The fact is, when I post an image everyday there is a story that is willing to meet me halfway. It just gives birth to a very unpredictable narrative that needs me as much as I need it. ”

The app he uses to craft his pieces is Procreate.

As mobile photography gains a greater acceptance and wider audience, I do not doubt that Alain’s work will be featured in an exhibit somewhere, someday!
Now, venture into the creative world of Alain Vincent.
