Achieving an HDR look Step by Step by Steven Savy

Steven Savy (Instagrammer @stevenyvas) was generous enough to share his process for creating HDR-like images using his iPhone!  I’ve been drawn to his gallery since I first stumbled across it and was thrilled to have a peek behind the scenes.
Please visit Steven’s gallery to see more of his work.
BeforeAfter
Apps Required:  Snapseed, iCamera HDR, Photo FX, Iris Photo Suite, PS Express, Squaready, Filterstorm, Lenslight
Apps-Used
Step 1 – Open image in Squaready and size to your preference (below)
Step 1
Step 2 – Load image in Snapseed.  Select Details then Structure and adjust to 100 and save. (below)
Step 2
Step 3 – Load image in iCamera HDR as a single photo.  Make adjustments to your personal liking and save. (below)
Step 3
Step 4 – Open image in Iris Photo Suite, then in Filters add Retro, 3-Strip Technicolor, Diffused Glow and Polarizer.  Again, this is all personal preference as far as adjustments.  Save. (below)
Step 4
Step 5 – Load image into Photo FX and under Light add Halo at 10 and save. (below)
Step 5
Step 6 – Load image in PS Express and sharpen and reduce noise for clarity and smoothness. Save.  (below)
Step 6
Step 7 – Now load image in Snapseed again.  Click Tune Image and adjust to preference.  Save.  (below)
Step 7
Step 8 – Load image in Filterstorm.  Select Vignette under Filters and set radius to 0% then brightness between 70-80%.  This give you the dark look.  Click the check mark and go to Curves.  Adjust Curves to as light as you want the highlights to be and then click Mask.  Mask the areas you want highlighted.  In this case, I wanted the railing and building to show more.  Save.  (below)
Step 8
Step 9 – Load image in Lenslight and add your sun and the light for the light pole and save. (below)
Step 9
Congrats!  You’ve just created a like HDR image!  (below)

Dilshad Corleone–Street Photography Perfected!

Dilshad CorleoneIf you’ve been following this blog, you’ll notice that I’m partial to street photography.  One of the first iPhone photographers I discovered was Richard Koci Hernandez.  It’s no wonder that I was drawn to the work of Dilshad Corleone who credits Koci as an early influence on his work.
Dilshad better known as @italianbrother on Instagram goes where few dare to go… directly in front of people on the street to capture them head on.  He admits his boldness almost got him stabbed as he approached an elderly man in Naples this past summer.  The man came after him with a knife, but he did manage to capture the photo below before making his getaway!

Dilshad’s mobile photography journey began only a few months ago when he was roaming the internet and found a 5-week iPhoneography course.  The course began with an interview with Richard Koci Hernandez and that video prompted the beginning of his journey to want to go out and “snap the world”.
Dilshad, born in Somalia of Italian and Indian origins, has lived in various cities around the world and now resides in London.  (I’m very jealous of the fact that he has a bustling city filled with people at his disposal!)  You would guess with the beautiful composition of his images that he made the transition from traditional to mobile photographer, but a cell phone is the only camera he has ever owned!
What does Dilshad love to capture?  “The grunge, the dirt, the grit, the unspoken London, the untold London. I see, I shoot and I go! I don't think much, it's more off a gut feeling... difficult to analyze, very much like when you fall in love and you feel the butterflies, yes, that is exactly how I feel when I see something that I want to shoot. iPhoneography and street photography has given me the power to tell my stories, what I see and what touches me!”
As far as favorite apps, Dilshad is partial to Camera+, Snapseed, Big Lens, PhotoToaster, lo-mob, Qbro, AfterFocus, Noir Photo.  (2 of those were new to me, so of course you know I headed to the App Store to purchase).
Without further ado, let me share with you the bold, beautiful and breathtaking images of Dilshad Corleone!  The image below and many others featured here each have a story to go along with them.  I will be working on a featured conversation with Dilshad for JUXT to explore the stories behind the images later this month.  (Captions below from Dilshad’s Instagram gallery).

Featured Instagrammer Stephen Cooper

© Stephen CooperThis week (on the sidebar), I’ll be featuring the feed of Instagrammer @stevecooper92.  His abstract portraits grabbed my attention.  If any of you followed my previous art blog, you may be aware that I LOVE faces and have been sketching them since I was a teen.
Steve started posting on Instagram about a year ago and for his first image the only thing he added was one of the apps built-in filters.  Now, Steve packs quite a lot in his “camera bag”.  Some of his favorites include Iris Photo Suite, Image Blender, Decim8, Snapseed, ArtStudio and Picfx.  In his words, “I seem to like filters that will add some kind of distortion to the image!  I tinker around for a bit saving many stepping stones till the final image appears.”
Below are some of those brilliant final images:
